Shakespeare Under The Stars!

Shakespeare Under The Stars performances accentuate the comic, the vibrant and the physical, taking advantage of the gorgeous natural surroundings of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, enhanced by superb lighting. It’s Shakespeare unshackled from traditional constraints – fun and accessible, and above all entertaining for everyone.

This summer’s production presents Glenn Elston’s brilliant new adaptation of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, taking the central core group of Mechanicals on a journey of discovery as they debate which of Shakespeare’s plays they should perform for the Duke at his wedding celebration.

As their suggestions are put forward they act out scenes from the canon, attempting to cover Shakespeare’s complete works – some in more detail than others. A hilarious concept production embracing all the best known scenes from the best known classic plays (plus more), with the Mechanicals exploring every possible way they can bring them to the stage to impress the Duke.
